Changing Directions

It’s been a long time since I’ve had a blog. I think my first entries date back to 2009. I had just left my job with a model home firm in Carlsbad, CA and was completing my first commercial design gig. I thought to myself, this was it, my solo design career had launched. It was only going to go up from there. And for a hot second, it seemed that way. But the partner who I had made plans to take over the design world with had decided to take a different approach to our business. That move knocked me down few pegs.

With the housing market in an economic tailspin and my working relationship now cratered, I retreated back into myself and decided to make lemonade out of lemons. Whenever events happen that feel out of my control, I usually retreat back to making art. So that’s what I did. I made art. I painted canvases and doodled illustrations.

As an artist, my work began to expand and take over my home. It was time to get an art studio. This was my lemonade. After feeling kicked to the curb by the interior design world, I was making waves in the Southern California art world. I had shows, collectors and went to the studio daily to work. It was my office. But as life has it, the interior design world came knocking back on my door. Opportunities to color consult, design and be a taste maker for clients kept coming to me and I realized I wanted back in. Don’t get me wrong, I love my paintings. I paint as though I am painting a textile design. It’s all about patterns, color and texture.

So I started taking on private clients. Small projects grew into larger projects. Last year, I made it official with Jocelyn Duke Interiors. This year I made the big decision to change over my website that focused primarily on my art to my interior design services. I’m very excited about my new site and super proud of myself for putting it together. As you navigate the site, you will be able to see a few design projects I have done over the past 3 years. There is access to my art portfolio as well as any branding work I have done. You’ll just need to scroll!

So many announcements. I have also opened a store! Currently, I have 3 different services to add to the cart. In the next few weeks, I will be posting home goods: furniture pieces, accessories and lighting to the shop. Very excited about this. I love the pieces I have on the docket to share with you. It is an extension of my lifestyle that I will be making available..

It would be a disservice to not mention the genius of my husband, Michael, a.k.a. Primo of Marijuana Movie Night. Without his wordsmith ways, my site would read like a broken AI chatbot. He’s writing and editorial skills are what makes my communications with you possible. I am grateful for him daily.
